Cross-border trade in the Upper Rhine region: opportunities, challenges and clear messages

Weil am Rhein, 7 November 2025 – Under the title ‘Upper Rhine: Trade without borders!’, the RegioTriRhena network invited representatives from politics, business and administration to Weil am Rhein Town Hall. The aim of the event was to highlight the importance of cross-border trade and develop common perspectives for the future.

Our manifesto

RegioTriRhena e.V. sees itself as a network for strengthening the cross-border economy in the border triangle Freiburg – Colmar – Mulhouse – Basel. It was founded in 1995 on the initiative of the three Regio associations in Basel, Mulhouse and Freiburg im Breisgau and re-established in 2003 as a registered association under German law.

Its aim is to strengthen the tri-national region on the southern Upper Rhine so that it can hold its own in the competition between regions. To network the economy in the border triangle, the association organises several company visits every year to innovative firms from all sectors in southern Alsace, South Baden and north-western Switzerland.

In addition, RegioTriRhena hosts a major annual conference once a year, bringing together experts from France, Germany and Switzerland on current topics. Dr. Bernd Dallmann has been President of RegioTriRhena since April 2021.
